  • Issue details - Viewing Carbon Footprint Details on Jira Issue

The Sustainian plugin allows you to track the carbon footprint directly from within Jira issues, including tasks, subtasks, stories, or epics. This guide will help you navigate and understand the carbon footprint metrics displayed on the issue page.

    Accessing Carbon Footprint Details

    1. Open the Issue: Navigate to any existing issue in your Jira instance and project where the Sustainian plugin is enabled.

    2. Locate the Sustainian Plugin Section: On the issue page, find the Sustainian plugin panel typically positioned on the right-hand side under the details section, as shown in the attached example image.

    Understanding the Carbon Footprint Panel

    CO2e Emission on This Issue:

The plugin calculates in real-time and will display the total carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions generated by work performed on the issue, measured in kilograms. This metric is calculated based on the logged work and the respective carbon impact factors associated with the activities.

    Collaborators (Worklog Contributors):

Below the CO2e emissions data, you will see a list of users (collaborators) who have logged work on the issue. Each collaborator’s contribution to the carbon footprint is tracked and displayed, indicating how much each person’s activities have contributed to the total emissions.

Note: If the issue is a story or an epic, the plugin aggregates the carbon footprint data from all child issues (subtasks or linked issues) to provide a comprehensive view of the total emissions associated with the larger work item.

    Plugin Features and Tips

Educational Insights: The plugin may also display interesting facts or educational tips about sustainability, such as information about how much CO2 a typical tree can absorb annually, which helps contextualize the data.

    Troubleshooting

    • Data Not Displaying:
Ensure that work logs are properly entered and that the plugin is correctly configured to retrieve data. If the carbon footprint shows as zero and work has been logged, verify the configuration settings in the Sustainian plugin management page.

    • Incorrect Data:
If the carbon footprint data seems incorrect or inconsistent, review the worklog entries for accuracy and ensure that the carbon impact factors are correctly set up according to your organization's standards.

For troubleshooting, in addition to the points mentioned above, please make sure to read the general troubleshooting chapter and consult the FAQ section as well. These resources provide comprehensive guidance and can help you resolve any issues more efficiently.
